PROXIMITY IS POWER: Surround yourself with the best of the best. The first nugget of gold in my 8 pages of notes from this morning.
This morning I had the absolute privilege to spend the morning in the company of the incredible human being Jean-Pierre De Villiers. A morning that was filled with incredible energy- many light bulb moments and even a little hidden teary eye at the realisation that this is my life and its pretty fricken great.
As my brain attempts to work through the avalanche of thoughts inspired by this morning, here you will find a brain dump of key notes. Enter at your own peril.
If you want to be the best, you have no choice but to surround yourself with people that have done what you want to do. If you spend time with elite level athletes- you have no choice but to adopt some of the qualities that they are display. If you spend time with millionaires, you will never be a $100k earner. On the flip side- if you spend time with negative nancies then those attitudes will most definitely effect you. I choose to spend time with people that force me to level up in life. I don’t want to be a follower- I am hungry to create my own rules.
I am hungry to create rules on my terms. Can I do that by myself. No. Absolutely not. We can always be up-skilling- we can always be learning- we can always do better. But why?!
Because the secret to living is giving! As JP said, live your life as a contributor, not a consumer. The more you give and put out into the universe, the law of attraction pays you back in return. How awesome does it feel when a friend does something thoughtful for you? How awesome does it feel when someone buys you a coffee and has a chat with you? It feels pretty great to connect with humans.
When you commit to something and the fruits of your labour start to pay off. When you commit to something, things show up. You just have to commit otherwise you will continue to live in you head.
YOUR MIND CAN CHANGE YOUR ABILITY
Your mind is everything. What you fill it with is your responsibility. You can fill it with things that will help you to create the life you want or you can follow the crowd and follow it with garbage that will hold you back.
HOW I FEEL IS MY FAULT
Choose to start your day inspired. Change your wake up time. Change it from a hasty, rushed wake up to one that you control. You control your life not the other way around. Win your morning- don’t start your morning on the back burner. Are you rushed in the morning, running behind the clock. I have personally adopted this on a regular basis- starting my day reading material that sets my brain up for success. Sure you could choose an extra 30 minutes of sleep but thats not going to change your level of tiredness. The way you feel is your fault. Inspired, motivated and productive? OR sluggish, rushed and inconsistent? I know which one I want.
YOU GET IN LIFE WHAT YOU PRACTICE
4 years ago I was shit house at deadlifts. I couldn’t deadlift 40kg without feeling it in my back. My current PB is 150kg. Im not the best but it feels pretty cool to be able to reflect on how far I have come. I practiced and practiced and practiced. And I will continue to practice.
Women put their trust in me. They trust me to be able to help them achieve various physical goals. They trust me enough to tell me their personal struggles, ones that even their best friend or partner might not know. They trust me to show up and help them as best I can.
I don’t take that lightly.
JP hit it on the head;
THE THING I LEARN TOMORORW, MIGHT BE THE THING THAT CHANGES THEIR LIFE
It is my duty to continue to show up.
YOU HAVE TO TAKE CONSISTENT ACTION
Why is this important to me? Because I have been in a place where the bully inside me has won. The girl that tells herself she is fat, ugly, weak, not good enough. She’s a bitch. I’ve spent years having to listen to her shit. Ive also spent years free of her constant nagging and boy of boy once her voice is drowned out, theres much more energy to do some pretty ridiculously cool things!
WE CAN BE CONDITIONED BY THE FOLLOWING WAYS;
1. Verbally
2. Role models
3. Experiences of intensity
Verbally: what we take in and what we live everyday. What thoughts we continue to keep in our head. What we read, what we listen to. The quality of the outcomes you want to produce is only as good as the quality of the material you put in. Don’t get me wrong- I watch Geordie Shore on the reg and that certainly ain’t quality content. That allows me to become as brain dead as they are after a night on the lash after an intense brain heavy day where I just need to chill the hell out. What Im talking about is the consistent material you put. That matters!
Role models: don’t be a follower but most certainly take what you want and what feels relevant from those people around you. Surround yourself with humans that challenge you. Ask people- ask questions. You never know what someone will say- yes or no. And if they throw an F BOMB at you well then theres something going on in their life that they need help with and its not on you.
SOMEONE ELSE’S OPINION OF YOU IS JUST AN OPINION
You don’t have to satisfy the needs of everyone.
Experiences of intensity: step into something new. Sign up for that race you have always wanted to do. Accept that public speaking event that you have been putting off. When we put ourselves in those situations we create different experiences and influence different qualities in us. Might be good or might be bad but you will never continue to live life and grow without giving it a go.
YOU CANT GET THE BEST OUT OF OTHERS IF YOU DON’T GET THE BEST OUT OF YOURSELF
This stuck with me. Big time.
I am here to get the best out of my life and I have identified that for me that involves getting the best out of others. Why? Because its pretty blimmen awesome to see someone else succeed. When my ladies hit a PB in the gym, my adrenaline is soaring,my lungs are screaming. Im lifting that weight with them.
I can’t endeavour to help someone if that little bitch that talks in my ear telling me all the negative things in my head returns. Cause she is persistent. At the drop of the hat, if I am not careful or prepared for it, she will return.
With the industry that I am involved in and love so much- continuing to get the best out of myself is not just a one time project I do when I feel like it- it has to be a daily routine.
WE ALL KNOW WHAT TO DO- BUT WE HAVE TO BE REMINDED DAILY
Whether this comes back to what we feed ourselves in order to live an optimal life, or whether its that we need to remind ourselves to take a break mid week to brain dump any negative thoughts. Whether we need to have a Coach who reminds us to squeeze our lats before we pull a deadlift- there is no shame in having someone else to remind you.
This is the same for me. We all need help, continually.
Thank you JP for sharing your life and love with us today.
A genuine legend.
