She doesn’t just throw her hands up and chuck in the towel. She knows its going to be hard but she does it anyway. She steps into discomfort and takes action. She takes small steps every day.
As I sat between sets and thought about the mornings conditioning session, a rush of emotions came through me. Love, pride, gratitude, respect. Our ladies show up and give it absolutely everything.
The women of Barbell Babes Brigade are exceptional human beings.
The goals they achieve. The relationships they forge. The decisions they make and the actions they take is inspiring and life changing for themselves and those around them.
They hunt down new careers
They leave partners and forge stronger relationships
They create life
They start their own businesses
They educate themselves
They have tough conversations
They don’t ignore their health
They lead teams
They learn to be vulnerable
They raise families
They inspire those around them
They know that they deserve to be happy and never settle for less.
Many of our ladies have been with us for years. We have been lucky enough to be a part of their lives and see them multiple times per week for training. We see them when they are tired from work, grumpy from a fight with their partner or having a hard time getting out of bed in the morning. We also see the excitement on their faces when they get that promotion at work, the look of pride they have when their fellow Barbell Babe hits that PB and the love they feel when they talk about their families.
We begin to see how our ladies respond in the gym and how we can utilise this to carry forward into other areas of their lives. We help them to find the connection between the physical strength they display and how they can utilise this outside our four magical walls. The physical strength our ladies gain is such a small part of the growth I have seen. The questions I ask many of our ladies are seriously tough. They can raise more questions than solve. Our ladies always have the choice to tackle them in anyway they feel comfortable. Whether they park it for a few weeks and ponder, whether they tackle it then and there, or whether they don’t like what I’m asking, every single one of our babes step up. Time and time again. She is a Barbell Babe.
Is it easy? Hell no. Growth is never easy. Whether we are chasing physical goals in or outside the gym, there is always going to be times where we want to give up. If it was easy then everyone would do it.
Our ladies are all unique and beautiful in their own way however they do have one thing in common. They never give up. No matter how long it takes, they will continue to chip away, one step at a time. This is the Barbell Babe attitude.
A Barbell Babe is someone who displays our values:
1. Strive for progress
2. Empower others and enable greatness
3. Small steps every day
4. Respect yourself and those around you
5. Run your own race
6. Passion: always put your full ass into everything you do
You don’t have to be great to start, you just have to be willing to give it a try.
Thats all we ask of our ladies. To drop the BS at the door and be willing to try. To drop the excuses that are holding them back and be honest with themselves. They might not know what the answer is immediately and that is ok. We don’t need to know all the answers, we just have to be willing to try and give it a go.
The lessons are gained in the process, not the destination.
