Adriana, Em and Marika stepped onto the platform for the first time.
Three competitors got up there but a whole pack of wild women were right there feeling the experience with them.
onto the platform is an experience that is quite hard to explain. You
can often get an idea about what to expect. By talking with the girls
that have competed before and from the Coaches.
You know that nerves are most definitely going to appear. You know that things are going to be heavy and this might set some doubt in your mind. You know that there is going to be so much going on with so many sensations that it might make you feel overwhelmed. You know that your Coaches have your best interests in their hearts and want you to enjoy your experience.
With some certainties but more uncertainties, you just don’t know what it is truly going to feel like when you finish your last deadlift and the months of hard work have finished and you actually did it! The feelings are so high and it can be so hard to articulate just how alive you feel.
On Sunday we got to introduce three of our ladies to this incredible world.
Let’s take a further look at how the ladies went!
|Squats||85 ✔️||90 ✔️||95 ✔️ PB!|
|Bench press||60 ✔️||63 ✔️||66 ✔️ PB!|
|Deadlift||110 ✔️||115 ✔️||120 ✔️ PB!|
We first talked to Em mid 2017. We talked with her about wanting to start strength training but not feeling like she was in a position to commit with uncertainties in her life. November we heard from her again and she started in our Brigade group program. As she began to find enjoyment in her training, Em started to make it all fit. As she kept training and moved into our Personalised Performance program we saw Em evolve. She learned to embrace uncertainties and live a life with multiple moving parts. Full time work, going back to uni, supporting her partner as he started a new career along with never wavering on her commitment to her strength. Her training became something that enhanced her life and helped her deal with the many stressors of life.
Em was made for the platform. Backstage she was a beautiful energy of smiles & laughter coupled with a little solo quiet time when she needed it. Em literally made every lift look effortless and we decided to push her deadlifts a little more. Taking out gold, hitting massive PB’s on all her lifts with plenty left in the tank, we got a good gauge of what Em was like in a comp situation and can’t wait to prep her again.
|Squats||82 ✔️||87 ✔️||92 ✔️ PB!|
|Bench press||46 ✔️||49 ✔️||52 ✔️ PB!|
|Deadlift||95 ❌||95 ✔️||100 ❌|
When Marika came to us as a Coach 12 months ago, she knew that she eventually wanted to step onto the platform but really didn’t know if she could get there. She said that she had never finished anything in her life and was scared to start something because she never stuck with it. From softball to piano to following through with a strength program. To hear Marika say to us immediately after she had finished “We did it!” with the biggest smile on her face, that was a moment that she had worked so damn hard for and the pride and joy in her will never be taken away.
Marika was really nervous backstage. Hitting her squats first for the group, she was super relieved and took a breathe once that was done. Her squats were so well executed and despite the long distance down (her long long legs lol) she really held her shape well and hit a PB! Bench press was another great lift for Marika and the work she had been doing with steadiness on her elbows really showed on the day. Prior to comp, Marika had been feeling super uneasy with her deadlifts. Struggling to maintain a consistent starting position with her sumo [deadlift] had the bar glued to the ground and had her miss her first attempt. She found the sweet spot on her second and the power in her lockout was undeniable. Hitting her third she was super gassed and just didn’t have it in her. Regardless of how her deadlifts moved, Marika had a great first comp and is keen to keep building on her strengths!
|Squats||98 ✔️||103 ❌||103 ✔️|
|Bench press||49 ✔️||52 ✔️||56 ✔️|
|Deadlift||115 ✔️||122 ✔️||130 ✔️|
1.5 years ago Adriana came to us wanting to just get moving and set up some consistency with training. Setting strength goals was nowhere on her radar at the time. Over the months as she focussed on her foundations, training became a part of her life. She began to feel that she too could achieve goals like others around her and that she wasn’t excluded from gaining strength. Her goals reflected her passion as it began to grow. She wanted the 100kg deadlift so she chased hard, then she wanted the 100kg squat and she got that too!
Adriana failed her second squat on depth and she got pissed. She retreated to the side and just sat with the emotion. After taking a few moments she was vibing with the Kanye and was ready to nail her third [attempt]. As soon as she hit that lift, her spark was back. Bench [press] flew and she was ready to really give deadlifts a good nudge. We decided to alter Adriana’s deadlift opener on the day and go for a number that was exciting and scary! Adriana was ready. She knew what was on the bar and wanted to give it a crack. Stepping up to the bar she took her time and it moved so well!
Adriana had an incredible first comp! Her new goals have already been set and she is excited to chase some big kahunas.
The love and support from the squad was electric! Every time one of the ladies stepped up, there were glitter pom pom stars flying, cheering and Xena warrior calls thrown in!
Competing for us is a community sport. Our ladies are our inspiration and every time we see one of our ladies up there it’s all of us feeling her emotions with her.
The fact that she can face fears and have a hell of a lot of fun doing it shows us that we too can keep chasing.
Here’s to our passionate wild women, we are stronger together!
