What does non fiction books have to do with my goals?!
“Fiction books are just a waste of time”
Someone who writes non fiction work and believes that this is the real work, the only form of writing. /this is the read deal. They treat novels like flimsy, romanticised self indulgent writing. Reading a fiction book is like wasting time and entertaining imagination.
But what if, it was the romanticised imagination that was going to unlock your non fiction writing. What if it was the non fiction work that was going to allow you to create an analogy in your head that could was going to be a game changer and really resonate with your audience.
What is stepping into another area was going to be the game changer for you in your life.
Lets look at our own goals.
You are wanting to lose weight. You tell yourself that when you lose 10kg, things will be happier. You will be more confident, you will feel comfortable in your clothes, you will be able to walk up stairs without huffing and puffing. But you just can’t seem to stay consistent. You come in and out of training, your organise your meals one week and then the next week you can’t be bothered and things drop off again. You search for the next diet that is going to be the one that fits with your lifestyle. You purchase the meal prep service that delivers food to your door every week because then you really can’t stuff up. But somehow you still don’t manage to lose that 10kg.
Why?!
You beat yourself up and ask why me?! Why can I not make this work.
Because like the non fiction snob, you are shutting yourself off and not delving into fiction.
What if I told you that the key to your weight loss goals really has nothing to do with the gym and the kitchen….
Would you think I’m crazy?
Having worked with many women from different walks of life, I can tell you that in my experience this is 100% the case.
The common thread that underpins success for all starts with some form of personal development.
Training your mind is as important, if not more important than training your body. It is the control centre of your life. It is where you make decisions from.
Leaning into the thoughts that are in your head is something that must not be ignored.
Just like the non fiction snob, we must open our minds to the other genre.
So where do I start?
Personal Development is a mystical, exciting and often weird world.
There is no shortage of resources available.
The single most effective resource that I believe in is the pen and paper.
Becoming self aware, however that may look to you is the first step in making change. When can only begin to gain experience in self awareness when we do. Doing, taking action and doing it consistently is the only way we will learn this new skill set.
Writing down what is sitting upstairs is the first step. Take the power away from negative thoughts.
There doesn’t have to be a method you follow or a step by step framework to tick off. Just write. Doodle. Scribble. Draw your thoughts. Whatever fits for you, just start.
Once we can begin to do this consistently, then we can to see where to go next.
Once we can see the reasons behind the decisions we are making, then we are in a much better position to make an informed next move.
The reason I am not losing that 10kg isn’t because I don’t know what foods to choose. Its not because I am not training. Its because I am……
Jump into your fiction and explore your thoughts.
