Over the weekend we had the pleasure of introducing three of our ladies to the platform for the first time and what a day they had!
Karla, Narelle and Alisa stepped into the challenge head first!
All surprised themselves with how well they handled themselves amongst the nerves and what they were physically capable of.
Competing on the platform is a completely different experience to training. Emotions are heightened and the different feelings can go through waves. You can feel excited one minute to riddled with nerves the next. Anxiety so high that causes you to forget the technical cues that you’ve been working on.
the highs and lows throughout the competition is something that can
hugely impact your performance on the platform if you don’t have your
emotions under control in that moment; your lifts can suffer.
As the ladies were approaching their first lift, we could see shaking hands, worried looks and nervous excitement all in one. Once the first squat attempt was completed by all, we all took a breath as a group for the first hurdle was jumped.
With 3/3 attempts all successful for all of our ladies, the energy was high. As bench came along, we had a few failed attempts but not without a good fight!
A failed lift can certainly shake you. It can hit your confidence and make you second guess yourself. Narelle and Alisa did a great job to pull themselves back and bring everything they had to their deadlifts. To take the failed lifts for what they were and leave it for now.
All three ladies finished the day with 3/3 on their deadlifts and medals all round. We had Karla take out 2nd in her weight class whilst Alisa and Narelle finished 1st and 2nd in their same weight class.
PB’s achieved, so much more gained than the number on the plates!
Alisa and Karla have been training with BBB for well over 2 years. They have been through so much growth with us and both never even thought they would have the courage to do something like this. Narelle came to BBB over a year ago, knowing that she liked to lift but had no idea where to start. With all Coaches backstage, it was an absolute pleasure to be alongside these three ladies as they faced the challenge together!
